Sing Me to Sleep by R.M. Virtues

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

What I Like: the setting, the world building. I really liked the hellscape and angel/demon lore, short read, Black Trans author

What I Don’t: the ending felt rushed, that there isn't more to the series yet

Trigger warnings: Sexual content, Death of parent, Death, Drug use, Gun violence, Panic attacks/disorders, Alcohol, Blood, Home Invasion

For February, we selected Sing Me to Sleep by R.M. Virtues for Weirdo Book Club's main read (available on Kindle Unlimited.) It is a dark, spicy romance that deals with trauma, PTSD and sleep paralysis... the latter being a key component that introduces the two main characters to one another.

Penelope is struggling after a home invasion took her father and left her traumatized to the point where she can't sleep. She finally finds a way to get some sleep but it comes with a side effect of sleep paralysis... and a demon - Acheron - that comes to her in her dreams. The kicker? They begin a sexual relationship!

I literally had a blast reading this, it was full of everything I like: filthy smut and demons. The way the real world and the underworld was explained and layered over one another was incredible, seriously, well done. I read this on ebook so every time a demon was named, I highlighted it and looked it up and they all checked out so points for that.

The only thing I really didn't was the ending, it felt very rushed and smushed together. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for an edgier romance book. Banging your sleep paralysis demon is pretty edgy, right? Anyway, I loved this, I fully plan to continue the series when available and to read more from this author.
